and is a complete and utter idiot?
This guy. Nice to meet you.
UPDATE: A nice family in a Pathfinder driving by stopped, and happened to have a tow chain. Pulled me back onto solid ground. It turns out that there IS a legitimate dirt road parallel to this, it forked, and I chose the ATV path instead of the legit road. It was pretty much sand.
I am delighted by the fact that you’re all as amused as I am, if not more. +1 for everyone.

The the VSC off. You will be out of there in a second. Ls can go anywhere.

“The mother LS burrows her back end into the sand, preparing to lay her eggs. Soon there will be little ES300s hatching.”

See, in my mind, this is how I justify my car over the LS. Sure the LS is more reliable, and just as comfortable and well equipped. But in my mind, Quattro would allow me to drive though that.
In reality, I’m not so sure.

No no, the Legend was an Acura. This is a Lexus.

Open diff? Lexus, I am disappoint.
Also: It matches the sand quite nicely.

The VCS has been glitching in and out as of late, so I keep it turned off. Since I don’t go sliding around like I would in the Miata, I haven’t had an issue with it not functioning...until today.

The (FWD) ES300 would’ve been fine in it tho ;)
And of course, some off-road tires would help too

I did have the VCS off! And the result was the diff throwing all the power at the passenger side, digging it deeper. Turning it back on didn’t help. Technology can only do so much when it has to compensate for my level of stupidity.

Oooo ooo oooo! I did that once, too, in a rented Mitsubishi. I was in the Middle East for work, and we saw people driving on the sand in ordinary cars, so with absolutely zero seconds of reflection on the matter we veered wildly off the highway and got stuck about 100 feet in. We didn’t dig down much, because the car had no power and basically just bogged down.
Some nice fellas pushed us out when we were done playing on the sand dunes and taking pictures.
Next time, remember to air down before hitting the sand. Or use a 4x4. Or both!

I’ve been there and done that. It was my college freshman self getting my MX6 buried when the ground I was driving on out in the desert suddenly turned very soft.
